Are they listening

Really saddened by the fact that the State Government has decided to shift the grand and awesome Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram, Chennai. The government has planned to change this place into a Children's hospital which has upset all the book lovers in the city, especially people who are regular at this state-of-the art library which is one of the biggest Libraries ever built in Asia and the biggest ever in South Asia. Modeled from the Singapore National Library, the Anna Cenetery Library is built at the cost of 1,720 Million Rupees! built on 8 acres, this is a 9 storied building housing books, magazines and manuscripts.

On weekdays1500 people use this library and the number doubles on weekends, this iconic library is unbelievably stunning because of the awesome infrastructure and also by the way this has been maintained given that this is a government building! Anna Library is close to IIT Madras, Anna University and there are many other schools nearby. Since its in the heart of the city, there will be no other place in the Chennai city where this library can be shifted with this much of open space, facilities and such a grand infrastructure and another important fact is this is located in a very key location.

Trivia:
THE LIBRARY OPENS UP AT 9 IN THE MORNING AND IS OPEN TILL 8 IN THE EVENING, the library can accommodate 1250 users at a time, built in 8 acers it has an area of 3.75 lakh square feet. The library also has a grand auditorium, an amphitheater, a conference hall, a mini conference hall, rooms where people can bring their own books and read, facilities and restroom for differently abeled people and works are in progress for housing facilities for scholars who wish to stay and read in the library and there are plenty of space for cars and bikes can be parked without any hazels.

In short this is heaven on earth for every book lover

The government is planning to shift this library to the DPI campus in Nungambakkam which is less than 1 Kilometer away from the Connimara Library, which already houses one of the largest collection of books in India! what is the point in house huge libraries in a single place? and even if it is shifted to the Nungambakkam campus it can never be built in such a grand manner again and how much money should be spent again for the shift?

This grand building also has fecilites where the public can bring their own books and read in a separate room, books which are availble here are rare and the books are of the latest edition which cannot be accessed by the public through any other libraries in the city, most of them are imported from the Cambridge university press. The order was placed at a whopping 1.275 Million Pound Sterling, which is the biggest order in the history of Cambridge University Press. In total 35,174 books are imported for the CUP. THE LIBRARY IN TOTAL IS HOME TO 5 LAKH BOOKS!

Check out the awesome infrastructure in the picture! have you ever seen a library with such an awesome infrastructure in India? even if you have seen such libraries in other parts of the world this place can be compared with those libraries, this picture is just half of the space in a floor, there are 9 such floors in the library with desk and lights attached to it, where you can take notes and big couches where you can relax and read. The library opens 9 in the morning and is open till 8 in the evening

To sum it up this library is of International Standards which was also praised by Hiliary Clintion during her visit to the state recently. Anna Cenetary Library is an iconic building which has become a landmark of the CHENNAI CITY an the state itself, shifting this grand library will only upset the thousands of book lovers across city. I am very grateful to the petitioner who have field a PIL against the decision to move the library to another place and I strongly belive that the court will understand the people's sentiment and will give an order in favour of the Public.

THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN REPLICATE THIS WORLD CLASS STRUCTURE IN THE NUNGAMBAKKAM DPI CAMPUS. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE AND GIVE UP THE IDEA OF CHANGING THE LIBRARY, WHICH ONLY CAUSES LOSS TO THE BOOK LOVERS IN THE CITY

Praising at our cost

Once again I am writing a blog on how the government is squandering public money, only recently the central government blamed Mayawati for spending over 600 crores for a dalit park, but within a month the same central government has no issues when people within the government squander people's money on remembering Indira Gandhi. There were half page ads seen on almost every National and Regional papers in the country.

I came to know from the press that the Delhi edition of papers was filled with ads praising and quoting her because the different departments of the Government wanted to impress the Higher officials in the government, lol, isn't that funny? for personal benefits, people in the government are using tax payers money to impress their leadership!

This is happens only in India, sadly this is happening again and again, there is little doubt  weather this was done genuinely because on the same day was, the iron man of India, Sardar Vallabhai Patel's 136th birth anniversary, it was reported that there was only 2 ads from the Government in the print media praising this true hero.

This is once again spending tax payers money for politicians' personal benefits
